Make your kids' shoes last longer and look better!
14 October 2011 - Our good friends at Bobux have given us some great advice on making your children's shoes more durable and also to keep them looking good!
Leather is like our own skin and needs moisturising for best results. Bobux recommend using leather care products on all leather shoes, especially children's. Children scuff their shoes easily - using them for brake pads when riding their bikes or just crawling on the concrete at kindy!
Here are a few tips and tricks we recommend to keep them looking top notch.
1. Always leave wet shoes to dry naturally - never by artificial heat.
2. Children’s feet sweat twice as much as adult which is why it is recommended to wear cotton socks with shoes. You can wear our leather shoes without socks but they need to be aired sufficiently before there next wear.
3. Shoes will wear excessively especially around the toes due to kids activities - even more so if the shoes are too small. Children’s feet grow in stages so it is important to measure them regularly. It is recommended that children up until the age of 6 years need a foot check every 3 months.
4. Beeswax polish is a great natural alternative that can be used on most nappa leather colours and it’s widely available.
5. If the top layer of the nappa leather has been scratched off then a polish or wax with a high colour pigment will give colour and lustre back to the leather. A polish conditions and helps retain leathers natural oils. It masks scuffs and marks, enhances the colour and provides a protective layer from light rain and spills.
6. Use a Waterproof Protector Spray for winter which can be sprayed on leather, nubuck and suede. You can use it on the whole family’s shoes (Woly Protector 3×3 Aerosol Waterproofing & Protector Spray utilises green technology and allows the leather to maintain its breathable membrane).
7. Nubuck and suede are a different type of leather with a buffed surface. Cleaning Gum is a solid rubber block used just like an eraser and will easily remove most marks and scuffs on nubucks.
8. Test polish on a small area of the shoe first and always follow the polish manufacturer’s application instructions.

Help with International Shoes Sizes
22 September 2011 - Shoe size conversion from European to UK (or US) and vice versa is difficult at the best of time, but it can be even worse when dealing with children shoe size conversions! Thats why our good friends at Bobux have released some guidance for our customers.....
International Footwear Sizing
Children's feet are as soft and pliable as rubber, therefore they can be forced into shoes which are much too short. Their nervous systems are also not fully developed, so children do not find the shoes uncomfortable, even when they are much too small.
As many of you know there is no international standard for footwear sizing or size conversions. Bobux's International Footwear Consultant Jana Buch discovered this in her thesis research. Jana measured a size 20 shoe from over 20 different shoe brands and discovered there was a variance of 10mm from the ‘smallest’ to the ‘largest’ size 20 - that’s almost a 2 size variance!
Sometimes shoes are as much as 3 sizes smaller than they state. In 2001, Kinderfuesse (an independent research company) was commissioned by the Austrian Ministry of Health to conduct a study on the subject: Only 3% of the children's shoes had the correct inner length. For example: In shoes marked size 30, the inner length was actually smaller, sometimes even only size 26!
Bobux Shoe Sizing

The 2012 Bobux range may be a more generous fit than other brands. As you have just read, this could vary substantially depending on the brand. The new Bobux range is up to one size larger than our old range, and the sizes have been adjusted to match those measurements recommended by German Standards and Fagus Company. Bobux have had their lasts made by Fagus who have been at the forefront of manufacturing and development of shoe lasts for over 100 years.
As the word suggests, when fitting a shoe it is about FIT not SIZE. The best way to fit a shoe for a child is to measure the INSIDE of the shoe.
For example, if the foot measures 168 mm (you should add a minimum of 12mm growing room which will make it 180mm), then the inside of the shoe should also be 180 mm.
New shoes can leave a bit more room for growing, but not more than 17mm should be added to the actual foot length. If the foot measures 168 mm, then the inside of the shoe should not be longer than 185 mm.
